TSA NY is pleased to present Rhapsody Tentacular, an experimental curation composed of eight variants of participation, each driven by its own impetus and improvisational spirit. The eight “arms” of the exhibition, invoking the likeness of an octopus, consist of individuals and collaborations working across diverse modalities of performance, broadcasting, dance, research and archivism, culinary arts, interactive installation, musical composition, writing, and poetry. The gallery space serves as a nexus for these energies to briefly intersect as they pass though, with open potential to form kinship. Rhapsody Tentacular is curated by SiSi Chen. On 3/16 Cook will perform a solo titled Dead Time in a Social Body. a movement work utilizing interplay with objects (some of which will be sculptural works created by Arnold in collaboration) and builds on her selection of readings, personal narrative, as well as the multi-disciplinary work from Leo Ryan, Amari Jones, John Arnold and their ongoing collaboration with the UNC WIlson Library. Cook will explore the gallery space at intervals through the run of the exhibition. The culmination of these projects will come together on March 16th at the gallery, with the works from Ryan, Jones, and Arnold being installed and presented in coordination with a public performance by Cook. The physical works from both projects will remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

TCR announces Issue 3.43, guest-edited by Aisha Sasha John and Alexa Solveig Mardon. In the summer of 2020, John and Mardon put out a call for visual or textual scores that dance artists employ in the creation of urgent, necessary, and medicinal work—as well as for writing that itself dances. They asked: What is it that you are dancing? This issue features the responses of over thirty contributors to that call including

ABOUT THE CLASS:
Interiors / Technique: How can we detangle fear-based training from our motor-neuro pathways to shed artififice, habits, and tension to move with clarity and ease?
This 90 minutes focuses on toning the inner to outer landscape while attempting to rewire harmful patterning caused by trauma, western dance training, and environmental stressors. Class begins with a glacial paced warm-up using acupressure, the taoist deer practice, and lymph drainage/ breathing, to clear and connect inwards. Class then shifts to an integration of parasympathetic cueing within phrasework and improvisation scores. We’ll re-route new channels within our movement praxes as we unearth, observe and notice.

A Clearing / Technique
How can we detangle fear-based training from our motor-neuro pathways to shed artififice, habits, and tension to move with clarity and ease?
This class focuses on alignment and strengthening while attempting to rewire harmful patterning caused by trauma, western dance training, and environmental stressors.
Class begins with a gentle moving meditation that shifts into a glacial paced warm-up using recognized dance movements as we integrate parasympathetic breath, vocalization, and the senses.
We’ll re-route new channels within our movement investigations as we unearth, observe and notice.
